Updating the Crucible extension

Updated over a month ago

Overview

The Crucible extension typically updates automatically through the Chrome Web Store. However, there are times when an update may not install right away. If you are experiencing an issue or were asked by our support team to update, you can manually trigger an update in just a few steps.

This guide works for both Google Chrome and Brave Browser.

How to manually update the Crucible extension

  1. Locate the Crucible extension icon in your browser toolbar (top right of your browser window).

  2. Right-click the Crucible icon.

  3. Select Manage extension from the menu that appears. This will open the Extensions page in your browser.

  4. Look for the Developer mode toggle in the top-right corner of the Extensions page.

  5. Turn on Developer mode by clicking the toggle. It should turn blue when enabled.

Note: This is safe to enable temporarily. Developer mode simply reveals additional tools, including the Update button. It does not affect the security of your extension or browser.

  6. Once Developer mode is on, you will see a new row of buttons appear near the top-left of the page. Click the Update button.

  7. Wait approximately 30 seconds. Your browser will check for the latest version of all installed extensions and install any available updates.

  8. After the update completes, turn off Developer mode by clicking the toggle again. This is optional but recommended as a best practice.

  9. Close the Extensions page and return to the Crucible extension. You may need to click the Crucible icon or refresh any open tabs for changes to take effect.

How to verify your extension version

If you want to confirm that your update was successful:

  1. Right-click the Crucible extension icon and select Manage extension.

  2. On the extension details page, look for the Version number listed under the extension name.

  3. Compare this number to the latest version mentioned by our support team or in our release notes.

Alternate way to open the Extensions page

If you cannot see the Crucible icon in your toolbar, you can navigate to the Extensions page directly:

For Chrome:

  1. Click the three-dot menu (⋮) in the top-right corner of your browser.

  2. Select Extensions, then Manage Extensions.

For Brave:

  1. Click the hamburger menu (☰) in the top-right corner of your browser.

  2. Select Extensions, then Manage Extensions.

You can also type the following into your browser address bar and press Enter:

  • Chrome: chrome://extensions

  • Brave: brave://extensions

Common questions

Is it safe to turn on Developer mode?

Yes. Developer mode is a built-in browser feature that gives you access to tools like the Update button. It does not compromise your wallet or your browser's security. However, we recommend turning it off after you finish updating, as a general best practice.

Will updating the extension affect my wallet or funds?

No. Updating the Crucible extension does not change your wallet data, balances, or settings. Your funds remain safe. Updates typically include bug fixes, performance improvements, and new features.

What if the extension still doesn't update?

If clicking Update does not resolve your issue:

  • Make sure your browser itself is up to date. An outdated browser can sometimes prevent extensions from updating properly.

  • Try removing and reinstalling the Crucible extension from the Chrome Web Store. Before doing this, make sure you have your 12-word recovery phrase backed up. You will need it to restore your wallet after reinstalling.

  • If the problem persists, reach out to our support team with your browser name, browser version, and extension version number.

Important: Never share your 12-word recovery phrase with anyone, including Crucible support. We will never ask for it.
