Why haven't I seen an allocation yet?

Updated over 3 weeks ago

Troubleshooting Checklist

If your allocator is enabled but you don't see any new subnet positions, check these three things:

1. Are you staked to the Crucible Labs Validator?

The Smart Allocator only has the "permission" to move rewards that are generated through our specific validator.

  • The Fix: Ensure your ROOT stake is delegated to Crucible Labs. If you are staked to a different validator (like an exchange or another community validator), the Smart Allocator will not be able to "see" or move those rewards.

2. The "Minimum Entry Fee"

Every subnet on Bittensor requires a minimum amount of TAO to start a stake.

  • The allocator waits until your rewards reach this "entry fee" before sending them.

  • If you have ~15+ TAO staked with the Crucible Labs validator, you should see an allocation every few days. With smaller amounts, it may take 1–2 weeks to "fill the bucket" for your first subnet.

3. Sequential Logic

Remember that the tool works one-by-one. It will finish staking in the first subnet on your list before starting the next. If you are watching a specific subnet further down your list, it won't receive funds until the ones above it are "filled."

Understanding the timing

Even when everything is configured correctly, the Smart Allocator works on a timeline that depends on your stake size and how the Bittensor network distributes rewards.

Why allocations take time

The allocator works by collecting the TAO rewards generated from your ROOT stake with the Crucible Labs validator, then using those rewards to enter subnets on your behalf. Two things control how quickly this happens:

  1. Rewards accumulate gradually. Root rewards are not distributed every day. The network processes swaps roughly every 3 to 4 days, so your rewards may take longer to appear than you expect.

  2. Each subnet has a minimum stake of 0.02 TAO. The allocator waits until your accumulated rewards meet this threshold before entering a subnet.

How long should I expect to wait?

Your stake size is the biggest factor. Root rewards APY shifts frequently, so these estimates are rough guides, not guarantees:

  • With around 18 TAO staked, expect your first allocation roughly every 7 to 12 days.

  • With around 7 TAO staked, expect closer to 3 weeks between allocations.

The range reflects both natural variation in when the network processes reward swaps and changes in the current APY. If your first allocation takes 10 days, each subsequent one will take approximately the same amount of time.

Does adding more TAO affect my wait?

Yes. The allocator takes a snapshot of your stake when you delegate to the Crucible Labs validator. If you add more TAO after that point, the snapshot resets and the accumulation period starts over.

Example: If you staked 10 TAO three days ago and then stake 10 more TAO today, your timer resets. You are not three days closer to your first allocation. The allocator begins accumulating rewards from the new total.

This is by design. The allocator needs a stable baseline to calculate reward flow accurately.
